The Raccoon Valley Snow Chasers (RVSC) will host the fifth annual “grass drags” snowmobile race on Saturday, Dec. 7. The annual fall event was renamed in memory of long-time snowmobile enthusiast Curt Flack of Jefferson. The Flack family was a snowmobiling pioneer in Greene County, dating back to the 1960s.
The race will take place at the Flack river farm five miles west of Jefferson–just south of Highway 30 and just west of County Road P-14. Signs will be posted on nearby roads leading to the event. RVSC safety director Craig Flack reports he has constructed a new and improved racing area just below the original drag strip.
Registration for the race is from 8 to 10:30 am, with racing to begin shortly thereafter. The race will include the following classes of snowmobiles: stock, stock studded, trail performance, improved, modified and outlaw. Each class will have 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800-1000 cc engine sizes–except outlaw, in which “anything goes,” said RVSC club president Mike Patten of Redfield.
Trophies will be awarded for the top three finishers in each class. The racetrack is 500 feet in length and it will be a double-elimination race format. There is a charge per race entrant and a per vehicle admission charge for spectators. Racers must be at least 18 years of age.
Food and beverages will be available at the event. Also, RVSC club merchandise will be available for purchase at the race.
